About the upcycling/zero waste Contest

The contest will increase exposure of talented up-cycle and zero waste designers while promoting fashion sustainability and creativity. The contest will begin online and end with a virtual runway finale where the finalists will be given an opportunity to highlight their sustainable fashion design skills with a mini collection made up of up-cycled and zero waste looks.

Along with the title, the winner will walk away with free entry into the fall 2021 sfw show.

How Does The Contest Work?

First Round: selected contestants/semi-finalists will have one “before and after” picture posted online for the public to view and vote. The finalists will be selected by the public. (February 1 - February 17)

Second Round: The finalists will be provided with recycled fabric/garments to design one up-cycled look and one zero waste look. Finalists will be asked to complete their three look collection with a “free style” look. This look and the fabric to complete this look is entirely up to each finalist. The designers may add other materials to the up-cycled and zero waste looks but it must be obvious to the judges that the fabric provided was also used. (February 25 - March 31)

Each look will be shown during a virtual runway finale. A panel of judges will select the winner based on “before and after pics” from the first round and the three look collection.
